Reiki is a laying-on-of-hands-healing technique which is based on life force energy, being a non-physical energy that animates all living things.  The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words: Rei meaning Universal and Ki meaning The Life Force. 

By using gentle touch Reiki is highly soothing for an animal in pain.  In physical and/or mental diseased living creatures, such as with chronic illness, infections and injuries or mental upsets like anxiety- or fear-related problems, Reiki can greatly support the veterinary treatment by stimulating the healing process. 

Animals are highly receptive to energy work, although contrary to people, they take this energy usually for a fairly short time.  Once enough they often just walk away.  When needed they usually return for it at a later time and accept it.  This form of laying-on-of-hands-healing can never do any harm to the animal.
